San Jose, CA, August 1, 2004 - Metropolis New Media, Inc., a hosting service provider that specializes in ESRI software, announced today that Jackson County, Oregon GIS Services has selected the firm to provide a managed hosting platform to support the County's new fire mapping application.

Under the two-year agreement, Metropolis is providing Internet connectivity, networking, servers, security and a number of managed services, including server administration, monitoring and backup services. Metropolis' support for ESRI server products and their ability to deliver the high levels of network performance, reliability and security was the primary reason Jackson County GIS Services chose Metropolis.

The primary purpose of firemaps.org Web site is to improve communication between fire camps and the public and media. The project team has worked diligently to provide what we hope is a relatively easy to use and navigate web site which has current information about wildfire events in southern Oregon. Additionally, the site has Fire Maps for all of Jackson County (Josephine County to follow this fall), and links to obtain more information about creating a defensible space around your home. During a wildfire Event, the icons below, More Info, Fire Perimeter, and Fire Photos, would provide more details about the current wildfire event.

The technology used to power the system includes ESRI ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and Oracle running on Windows 2003 Server.
