San Jose, CA, October 31, 2006 - Metropolis New Media, Inc.,
a leading hosting service provider for ESRI server and software
products, and The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national
nonprofit land conservation organization, announced today
that TPL has selected Metropolis to provide a comprehensive
managed hosting solution for on-demand access to ESRI ArcGIS
Desktop and a centralized spatial data repository using Citrix
Presentation Server.
Under the agreement, Metropolis will provide hosting infrastructure,
connectivity, networking, security, systems administration
and support, data backup and off-site vaulting services. TPL
will provide server hardware & software.
ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software products allow users to author,
analyze, map, manage, share and publish geographic information.
Citrix Presentation Server is the industry-standard for application
virtualization using a centralized and secure architecture.
Citrix Presentation Server enables organizations to centrally
deploy and manage line of business applications while providing
secure, on-demand access to these resources for users anywhere,
on any device and any network.
"TPL’s GIS program is growing." said Breece
Robertson, TPL's National GIS Director. "Maintaining
local and remote users access to GIS applications, data and
custom tools is expensive and time consuming. With its centralized
model, Citrix enables us to deploy and maintain ArcGIS Desktop
applications and custom tools much more efficiently than if
they had to be installed and configured on each user’s
computer. And with floating licenses and applications running
on high-powered servers instead of local computers, there
is no need for a software license and high-end workstation
for each user. This means we’ll start receiving a return
on our investment right away."
"Going with Metropolis for hosting made a lot more sense
than investing money and resources on the infrastructure and
personnel needed to deploy and maintain the system in-house."
said Robertson. "Hosting a multi-tiered Citrix system
with ESRI software requires specialized training and experience.
Metropolis was one of the few hosting service providers able
to offer a complete solution that included implementation,
hosting and on-going support for both Citrix and ESRI software."
